HISTORY El Centro Latino grew out of a collaboration of local Latino leaders, the Orange County Task Force on Hispanic Issues, and the Orange County Partnership for Young Children's Los Ninos Task Force. El Centro Latino was incorporated in the fall of 1999, granted its IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit status in the spring of 2000, and opened its doors on July 15, 2000. The mission of El Centro Latino is to improve the quality of life for Latinos living in and around Orange County by providing educational and social services and cultural activities. Of Orange County's population of 118,230 people, 4.5% are of Hispanic or Latino origin. Of Carrboro's population of 16,780 people, 12.3% are of Hispanic or Latino origin.
