Orange County, NC’s Latino Population
Please note: This list was compiled in the fall of 2006. Many of the studies are from a public health or social science perspective – this list is not exhaustive by any means. Below you will find a few current studies, a list of studies published since 2000, and some state and local links of possible interest.

Partnership with Parents for Children’s Language Development
This project works with Latino parents who have children enrolled in a Head Start program in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. The project seeks to enhance parent-child interaction by teaching parents about ways to talk and read to their children.

The Nuestros Niños Early Language and Literacy Study is being conducted in early childhood programs from 21 NC counties, including Orange, to develop and evaluate the effects of a professional development program on improving teachers' practices to support language and literacy learning among Latino children who are English language learners. The study involves teachers' participation in a professional development program, assessment of Latino children and interviews with Latino parents (Principal investigators: Dr. Virginia Buysse & Dr. Dina Castro).
